1 dress, 3 ways, part 1.

HELLO, and Happy Halloween!! And more than that, Happy Rue-Day! That's right, the new issue of Rue is out today... and it is good! Trust me- we worked our little tails off [that's why I was missing yesterday], and are so proud of this issue. We hope you enjoy!!

Next... I am excited to bring you a new little series on Leopard and Lavender. When Levi's approached me to participate in their Around the World in a Levi's Dress program, I couldn't say no! Having long been a fan of Levi's, my fondness has only grown since living in the Bay [they're based here]!! Their clothing is high quality and timeless, and such a staple in my wardrobe.

When it came to styling the Gingham Check Dress, I couldn't choose just one way. So, I styled it three ways- which is actually code for "I love this dress so much, I wore it all weekend long." So as not to overload you with 5 billion photos [like I always do], I'll break it up... and you can pick your favorite!

First up... my Saturday in San Francisco. After grabbing lunch with friends, we wandered over to Fillmore St. to get coffee, do some shopping, and enjoy the beautiful weather before the Halloween madness ensued. At Fillmore & Broadway, my favorite view, the sky was clear and we could see all of the cute little sailboats in the Bay.
dress // shirt // belt // shoes, similar // sunnies

I kept the dress casual with a basic brown belt and my favorite leopard flats. Living in San Francisco, layers are essential, but cardigans get boring fast. I layered my chambray underneath the dress for a different take and extra warmth. The gingham print of the dress went perfectly with the texture of the chambray, and I can't wait to pair this look with a scarf and boots when the weather gets a little colder.

Check back tomorrow for my other two looks... one of which, I'm pretty sure, helped the Giant's win the Series. ;)

Happy Halloween!!

What a Weekend.

This weekend was one of the best ones I've had... ever. It was the perfect combination of relaxation and exploration. Starting with a cozy movie night in, and ending with the Giants winning the World Series [!!!Pictures to follow!!!], I was thoroughly exhausted today. OR, I have the flu. I haven't yet figured it out. Between feeling sick, putting in work for the new Rue [out on Wednesday], and watching the horrible news unfold on the East Coast... I just couldn't quite get this post done any earlier. If you're on the East Coast- know all of my prayers are with you! Now, onto my silly weekend recap:

I wasn't ready to let go of my polka dots just yet... so I gave myself a gold update!

Pretty houses in my neighborhood. Mint + Pink, so stylish!

Since I don't often post "personal" photos, here is Tim and I at lunch on Saturday! What a dreamboat!

We were celebrating Saturday with Orange Cocktails from Nopa

Some new friends I made at Nest

Darling packaging, also at Nest

A new favorite spot in Pacific Heights.

Our neighbors had a Halloween Party! How cute is this little sign?

AND, my costume. I wore my leopard print pants and an old Tarina Tarantino necklace as my "collar." AND I was the life of the party, as you can tell in the photo. ;)

Brunch in Berkeley.

Wearing my Ban.do Glitter Pom Pom!! A little sparkle makes everything better.

We FINALLY caught the Barry McGee show at the Berkeley Art Museum. Totally inspired, and expect more photos coming soon!

I know how trivial this post seems in lieu of everything going on right now. But, this blog was made to share a little shine and happiness the best way I could. And also, have a little soapbox I could stand on from time to time. If you're able, you can donate to the American Red Cross directly from your phone. Here's how

Thanks for reading. :)

Literally, Leopard and Lavender.

sweater Walmart [srs, no shame] // jeans Current Elliott // shoes Lauren Conrad, similar // watch MBMJ // necklace Stella&Dot

So, what we have here is a series of photos in which I am sitting in different poses on a set of stairs. BUT, what makes these photos just magical is that I am LITERALLY wearing leopard... and lavender.  Get it? Leopard and Lavender? Right?! I know.

Sweaters like this one have been my go-to lately. I love pairing a chunky knit with skinny jeans and ballet flats, or leggings and boots. I feel comfortable [important], but not sloppy [more important]. What I also like about loose fitting pullovers is that they take the guess work out of getting dressed. No pairing with a blouse or button up- it is basically the whole outfit. And we all know I like to make getting dressed as easy as possible. :)

WWL: BaubleBar!

GREAT news, everyone! Today's Wednesday Wish List is centered around Bauble Bar, obviously... but the good news is their Friends & Family sale is going on right now [thank goodness my friend Christine told me, or I'd never take advantage of the savings]. Basically, you can save 25% using code BBFAMILY... and you save $10 if it is your first order. I love Bauble Bar because their jewelry is super high quality, they have fast shipping, tons of choices, and they always offer ways to save you money. It has become my go-to when I need to buy gifts for my girly-friends.

The items I chose for my Wish List are all mix and match... entirely by coincidence. I see a theme in my life. I have been wearing a lot of dark colors [blending in to the city, I suppose] but I have a strong urge to add some girly color to my life. I honestly can't choose a favorite thing... but the sale is going until the 28th so I have a few days to choose! Which one is your favorite//which one(s) should I choose?? If you're in love with any, you can shop all of the items directly here:

ALSO, while we're on the topic of accessories... the lovely gals at Ban.do are releasing their new line in a matter of days. I have seen a few previews, and obsessed would be an understatement. To celebrate, they're offering a giveaway on the GORG piece below. Win it before you can buy it?? Talk about a treat. Visit their blog to get entered.

What a Weekend.

Well, my goodness. The "What a Weekend" post hath made its triumphant return... on a Tuesday afternoon, but it is still a return! This is code for "I remembered to take photos of things while at places doing stuff" and also a code for "Monday was really busy so now it is Tuesday."

I sincerely hope these posts return weekly, as they are one of my favorites. I love sharing bits and pieces of my adventures... so enjoy!

We took a break on decorating the apartment, but are back in the swing of things. This is my favorite little corner. Clearly.

Just some fashionistas on Haight! Love your outfits, girls!

Another little corner. [This is in our living room.]

Since I work from home, I hang out with these two. All. Day. Long.

Was organizing my jewelry shelf and found this little flashback- me and my mama!

On Friday night, Tim surprised me with a pizza-picnic at Alamo Square! Since it was colder, the second we got home we bundled up on the couch. This is a pretty standard night in for us- Tim drawing and me creepily taking photos.

Pretty Parlor is a great little spot in SF that offers waxing, facials, and makeup... and they're now on wheels! Think food truck meets beauty parlor, in all the best ways. This is just a little teaser... I have a full post coming up soon!

Speaking of Pretty Parlor, they were offering nail art when we stopped by. HELLO polka dots!

True Life: I'm addicted to CocaCola.

My view Sunday morning.

Yesterday, I assisted on a photo shoot for Rue. The San Francisco home of Kelley Moore was unbelievable- I cannot wait until the new issue comes out so you all can see it! It gave me *just* the motivation boost I needed to get our apartment complete. This chair was my favorite thing in the whole place. SIGH.

ANYWAYS hope your week is off to a great start!! Also... Ban.do is offering 30% off their Spring//Summer line with the code GOINGGONE at checkout! Get shopping, girls!

San Francisco: 3 Months.

Three months ago today... I'd sold or donated what seemed like all of my belongings, packed the remainder in a bright yellow truck, and driven 641 miles from Boise, ID to San Francisco, CA. At this point in the day... I was staring at boxes and boxes of clothing next to a closet that was about 1/2 the size of the one I'd left behind and listening to what seemed like 8 billion cars zooming past my new apartment. And if we're being honest, I was terrified.

Thank goodness I've had my best friend by my side through this adventure. He has made this the easiest it could have been. Like any change, there have been good days and bad days... but at the end of every day I am so thankful to be here.

No matter where I am, I can catch a view that takes my breath away. The fog rolling over the city, a gorgeous clear day at the top of Fillmore, the eucalyptus trees in the park, a peak of the Golden Gate over the tops of homes, the skyline twinkling on a fogless night, or an incredible old Victorian... I can't believe I call this city home.

Happy Anniversary, SF!

ALSO... Living by the bay is *much* different than living in the desert heat of Boise, so I am going through my closet and clearing out things that I just don't need or use here. I've put quite a few new items up for sale on Threadflip, and will be adding more over the coming weeks. Happy shopping!!

Monster Cookies.

I am sure most of you have heard of these cookies, but if you haven't... you're welcome in advance. I first was introduced to them by my college roommate, who said she was making "monster cookies." I, being an embarrassingly picky eater, asked what kind of cookie that was. She said "it's like, everything." And she was right.

Fast forward a few years ago to this last Spring, when I coerced the baker of the household [Lindy] to make them. Again, amazing.

So now I live in San Francisco and am *slowly but surely* learning my way around the kitchen. Tim always imagined when we lived together, we would "cook a lot" and it would "be like the movies" with "flour everywhere." So, we try to cook or bake something together at least once every other week. And this weekend, it was the miracle that is monster cookies. In short, they are "m&m, chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal cookies." Here is how you do it:

MONSTER COOKIES:
Makes about 36 cookies, 30 if you eat an abnormal amount of the dough.

INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 cups Peanut Butter [aka most of a 16 oz. jar]
1 stick Butter, softened
1 cup Granulated White Sugar
1 cup Packed Brown Sugar
3 Eggs
1 tbsp. Vanilla Extract
4 1/2 cups Quick Cooking Oats
2 tsp. Baking Soda
1 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
1 cup M&M Candies

DIRECTIONS:
1. Pre-heat oven to 350 °F & spray cookie sheets with non-stick spray.
2. Combine the Peanut Butter, softened Butter, Brown Sugar, and White Sugar in a large mixing bowl. Use a mixer [KitchenAid if you're fancy, or a hand mixer is what I use] and mix until it is a delicious butter-sugar paste.
3. With the mixer still running, add in the Eggs and Vanilla.
4. With the mixer still running, add in the Oats and the Baking Soda. Mix until well combined.
5. Turn off that electric mixer! By hand, stir in the Chocolate Chips and M&M's. Try not to eat too many beforehand or the some cookies will end up with none and that will be heartbreaking for those cookies.
6. Drop heaping spoonfuls onto the cookie sheets.
7. Bake 10-12 minutes but *DO NOT OVERBAKE!!!* They will be gooey at first, this is good.
8. Let them harden slightly on the cookie sheet before transferring to wire cooling rack.
9. ENJOY.

These are seriously the best things, ever. I sent Tim into work with as many as he could carry each day so that we didn't turn into Cookie Monsters [get it?] by the weekend. I think I am very popular at his office now. At least, I imagine so.

Also, I am literally eating the last one as we speak. Or, as I type. Depending on when you read this.

Let me know if you have any questions in the comments- and ALSO if you liked this little baking segment. I am cooking more and more, and if there is interest, I'd love to feature all of my successes [and disasters] in the kitchen!

Happy Thursday!

Boots in Berkeley.

top Target [similar here on sale!!] // scarf [similar here] // denim AG // boots Rocket Dog // watch MBMJ // sunnies Target // bag Urban Outfitters

On Saturday, we went to Berkeley to catch the Barry McGee show, something we were both very excited about. However, by the time we made it out of the city and across the bridge and into beautiful Berkeley... the museum had already closed. Usually, I prevent things like this from happening by double checking the operating hours beforehand. I guess I was too excited about my new boots to be my normal responsible self. Oops.

Luckily, we took advantage of our sudden change of plans by wandering the Berkeley campus. Um, I'd like to go back to school please. So gorgeous! I mean, the Broncos have my heart... but I wouldn't hate being a California Golden Bear. Maybe I'll just dig up some of my old college textbooks [do people still use those??] and go wander around and ACT like I'm in school. Hashtag: Not as creepy as it sounds, I promise.

In regards to my new boots, and to answer the question you're probably dying to know- YES. They are dark brown, not black. And YES. I am wearing a black top and a black purse with them. And NO. I don't care. I know that there is some rule somewhere that you can't mix the two, and if you looked at these photos and gasped in horror... well then I'm sorry. I wanted to wear this exact outfit, regardless of any clashing faux pas, and so I did. Whew. I'm glad we were able to talk about that.

It is also important to note that on the drive back into the city, we stopped at a Target and I bought 3 bags of candy corn. And have already eaten one.

Hope you're having a wonderful Wednesday!!

Motivation for your Monday.

I know Monday is nearly over [and I guess, over entirely for some of you!], but I've got some motivation I want to pass your way. And since Monday starts with an M, and so does Motivation... that is just what is happening here.

I've done a lot of "reflecting," if that is what you call it, and have come to a series of conclusions. I have gone through so many transitions over the last few years, some good and some bad, and all have led me to where I am now. The last year has provided me with blessings I couldn't have previously imagined. While things seem perfect right now, it hasn't always been that way. I can vividly remember certain situations that tried my every ounce of energy. I remember challenges that, at the time, I wasn't sure how I'd get through. In fact, those challenges don't seem all that long ago.

But when it comes down to it, if I make things very black and white: I did get through. And with each hurdle, I emerged stronger and more determined to have the life I'd imagined. I stopped throwing pity parties and instead I thought I should just throw regular parties with treats and laughs and fun. And that was probably a pretty good call.

Here I sit, in my bay window at my beautiful desk... the fog forgot to roll in this evening, so I have a view of downtown's twinkling lights. I have two pretty funny cats snoozing on the bed behind me, and a kitchen full of about 90 "monster cookies" we made last night [recipe coming soon, don't you worry]. I have a handsome, kind, and caring young man on his way home and we'll probably spend the next three hours telling jokes and laughing.

And I'm writing this not to brag or show off or make my life in SF seem perfect... because I have challenges and struggles here each and every day.  I am writing it because it is such a moving moment to focus on where you've been, and see where you are. And that no matter how dark it seems, the sun comes out again... and again, and again, and again after that.

Life is as grand as you make it. Each situation we're dealt is really just a stepping stone to get us to the next one. And you need to take time to be thankful and hopeful and make every situation just absolutely grand. If you hate your job, are trying your best to get out of debt, sweating it out in the gym every night in hopes to get to your goal weight, feeling a little lost, or dealing with HUGE, life altering problems, whatever they may be... try to make it as grand as you can. Make every single "stepping stone" seem grand.

One thing I'm working really hard on is to be present, and be in the moment I am currently in- not the one I wish I was in. It requires that I stop comparing myself [and my blog] to others, not wishing my career was already 5 years down the road, and accepting the fact that money [and shopping and travel] will be tight for a few years. When I stopped wishing things were a little different, and instead focused on how things were- I felt humbled. Because when I actually lay everything out, things are pretty darn wonderful. I mean, a little over 3 months ago... all of my energy was spent wishing I was HERE, in San Francisco. And here I am.

I guess the point of this little rambling is to remind myself, and you, to count our blessings. Don't waste your energy feeling sad or frustrated or sorry for yourself, but instead use your energy towards becoming as strong and joyful as you can be. And focus on shining your light, no matter how little it seems... because life is just as grand as you make it

Cheers!

CHEERS to it finally being Friday. I don't know about you... but this week really did a number on me. I've got to get through the rest of today first, but then I am pretty sure I have a date with some loungewear, a good movie, and the couch. As usual, I am happy to see Friday finally arrive- and have a great weekend ahead [though admittedly much less busy than last]. We're venturing to a few art shows, and I've also been promised the best pizza ever- something allegedly so good that we have to drive to Berkeley to get it. I'll give a full report next week.

As always, follow along with the fun on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram- and be sure to let me know what fun things you have planned in the comments!!

See you Monday!

Thursday Inspiration.

If you follow me on Pinterest, you likely noticed I've been just pinning up a storm lately. I am finding so much inspiration for my work, my goals, my apartment, my wardrobe. Etc. Etc. Etc.

I thought I'd share some of my favorite recent pins that are giving me a little boost of creativity. I am about to commit one of my biggest blogger pet peeves- images that are different widths... OH the horror. But the images themselves are so great that I don't even care...  & hopefully you'll be inspired like me! :)
