Free People October Catalog

Free People released their October catalog today, and it's a total stunner. They've created the perfect bohemian autumn- full of textural layers and muted colors. While each piece is totally unique on its own, the entire line can seamlessly mix and match. I'm really loving a few of the tunics [this one and this one] and am obsessed with this poncho. SIDENOTE- had you told my 8th grade self I'd one day be waxing poetic about ponchos, I would have spit out my orange soda. Totally bananas. Anyways, Free People just might be my spirit animal. Which look is your favorite?

My good friends know that my happy place is getting a mani-pedi. I don't go too often, but I use a trip to the nail salon to celebrate big events or to cheer up after a long day. I am always on the hunt for cute, affordable spots to fulfill my #treatyoself mantra.

Last week, I had the pleasure of checking out a new nail hot-spot in the city- LUXSF. Located just a short distance away from my apartment, this Hayes Valley boutique spa is beyond cute. The entire staff is super sweet, making you feel comfortable the moment you walk in the door. Even better? LUXSF has THE best color selection I've ever seen. Ever. They carry Deborah Lippman, RGB, USLU, and their own custom line [pictured above]. The girls know the colors really well, so I was able to say "I want something neutral-ish with a little hint of purple"and voila! Vanessa, the manager, brought 4 options right over to my adorable gray chair. And my technician, Jennifer, did an awesome job.

Basically, location + service + price make LUXSF my new favorite spot. I think it's the perfect place to bring out of town guests- so any of my friends who are planning visits soon, expect to get your nails done when you're here. My new Saturday routine will be grabbing a sweet chai at La Boulange, shopping at Azalea, and stopping in for a little pampering. PERFECT.

*Disclosure: LUXSF generously provided my nail services, but my opinions are my own.

6 Favorite Sweaters for Fall.

This is San Francisco's warmest time of year. While the rest of America cools down and prepares for wintery weather, the city heats up and the residents flock outdoors in their favorite summer styles. This is nice because we technically froze all summer and my pale legs could use some sun, but my internal style clock is craving sweaters. See, while I'm technically wearing shorts today, I'm THINKING about wearing chunky knits in rich, fall patterns. There are few things better than a gorgeous, oversized sweater and your favorite pair of jeans. My favorite in this lineup? #4 by Feel the Piece. Which would you add to your closet?

necklace INPINK c/o // tee Forever 21 // denim 7 for All Mankind // shoes Target

We've all been there. Standing in our closets with a majority of the contents on the floor and an overwhelming sense of defeat. Dresses strewn across the bed; a pile of patterns on the floor that represent another failed attempt at print-mixing. And even if you just spent your paycheck at Zara last week, you literally have nothing to wear

Whenever I'm in a major style rut, I have two go-to looks that always get me out the door. First- all black. I just grab anything black and call it good. I pretend this is a very "New York" thing to do, but as I've only been to NYC once when I was 14, I could be way off. Next, a plain white tee and jeans. I know this classic combination will always work, and I'm able to add accessories depending on my mood. A scarf, boots, espadrilles, a jacket... it all works.

Now, I'm not saying this day was a major "I have NO CLOTHES" day... I'm just saying, a white tee + dark wash jeans was my saving grace. And to up the ante? This INPINK bauble. It's got the perfect muted palette for fall and plenty of sparkle. Don't forget, INPINK is offering all L&L readers 30% off! Just use code LEOPARDLAV30 at checkout!

My Emmy Favorites

I am a sucker for awards shows. They usually air when I'm super emotional so I cry at just about every acceptance speech and REALLY cry at every shot of proud spouse/friend/coworker in the audience. Tonight's show was no different, obviously. Many are calling it the "saddest Emmys ever" and I literally lost it during Edie Falco's tribute to James Gandolfini- which is odd because I don't think I've ever watched a movie or TV show starring either of them. That's just how attached I get to awards shows.

I also really love the fashion- duh. Here's my favorites from the evening [in no particular order]:

1. Anna Gunn, AKA Skyler White, in Romona Kevesa. I literally gasped when I saw her walk onstage. Her hair and makeup were on point and she looked absolutely radiant. This was particularly pleasing to me because I spent most of Breaking Bad saying "UGH Skyler is the WORST!!" or "UGH Skyler, get a new robe!!" Needless to say, she [Anna AND Skyler] really redeemed herself with this dress. PS... I'm a few episodes behind SO NO SPOILERS PLEASE.
2. Laura Dern in Naeem Khan. The color, the sleeves, the neckline, and the embellishments. I would wear this to the grocery store if I could. Perfect.
3. Aubrey Plaza in Marios Schwab. This look may land her on the "Worst Dressed" list, but maybe that's why I love it so?? I'm also crushing on her minimal makeup. She looks fresh and unique- although I could have done without the clutch.

4. Allison Williams in Ralph Lauren. Um, shout out to Allison for having such a simple gown but making such a huge impact. Her hair, makeup, jewelry- all looks so effortless. It's as if this is the exact outfit she'd wear to brunch and no one would question why she was so dressed up- and then at the Emmys, she holds her own in a sea of sequins. Good job.
5. Lena Dunham in Prada. It's no secret I love a bold print. This one caught my eye in a good way. It's very pretty and really reflective of Lena's bright, quirky personality. A lot of women matched their eyeshadow to their gowns this year- while that typically looks horrifying and actually makes me cringe, I think Lena made it work.
6. Julie Bowen in Zac Posen. This photo doesn't do this dress justice. I saw it on E's "Glam Cam" [something else that makes me cringe, why do you have to have so many camera names?] and you guys, the detailing and fit = absolute perfection. The layers at the bottom were truly beyond. I wish everything I owned had such a perfect ruffle.

Sorry I'm such a loser and blogged about this moments after the show aired. I just had my laptop out and knew I'd never get to it tomorrow. Did you watch the show? Any loves/hates/surprises? Let's chat in the comments:

necklace INPINK c/o // tee Cotton On // denim Citizens // sneakers Superga [no longer available]

During the weekends, I really love pairing basics with something fabulous. It's totally effortless, and gives off that 'cool girl vibe,' even though I'm not that cool. So often, I'm guilty of running out the door without putting much thought into my overall outfit- hilarious that I claim to have a "style" blog right? Adding a statement necklace is the perfect resolution to that lazy-factor. It allows me to wear my favorite jeans and tees, but really elevates the look. It's officially my new weekend go-to.

This particular necklace is from INPINK, one of my favorite new jewelry spots. They have one of the largest selection of sparkles- and lots of different styles too. Plus, most jewelry comes as a set- so this emerald one comes with matching earrings! AND AS A SPECIAL WEEKEND SURPRISE... INPINK is offering all readers 30% off. Just use code LEOPARDLAV30 at checkout!

Happy shopping!!

A Day with QVC: All Things Leather!

You guys, I have an addiction. Why are leather jackets SO COOL? I snagged a pretty perfect one last fall [remember this?] and have been obsessed ever since. My somewhat unhealthy obsession is only getting worse as the trend is bigger than ever this fall. Leather jackets with jeans, leather jackets with wispy white dresses, leather jackets for a night on the town.... everyone should really just own one. Or seven.

When my good friend Erin of Apartment 34 asked if I wanted to join her in expressing my leather-jacket-love with QVC's Inspired Style, it was a no brainer. Here's a little preview:

The rest of the episode airs tonight on QVC at 10:00PM PST. Spoiler alert- I am not very good at walking, talking, and making eye contact all at once.

The only downside of pairing up with Inspired Style to chat all things leather?? I suddenly have a craving to add even more to my closet...
1. Zara Jacket // 2. Marc by Marc Jacobs Bag // 3. Zara Boots

HUGE thank you to Erin for letting me be her sidekick and to Inspired Style for not laughing TOO HARD when I fell over [true story]. And don't forget- tune in at 10:00PM to see our small-screen debut!

Meet Frameri

Ever since I was young, I've always wanted to wear glasses. I [luckily] don't have a vision problem, but I really see eyewear as the ultimate accessory. Just ask Jenna Lyons or Iris Apfel- eyewear is iconic. However, one complaint I always hear from my glasses-wearing friends is how annoying they are. If you invest in a statement pair, they don't go with every outfit. Or, you just really want to change your frames based on your mood and you can't. Even worse, you're stuck with only one pair of sunglasses. I personally have 3 pairs of sunglasses in my purse at all times, so this is my nightmare. I know that when my vision goes [and it will], I'll immediately be bored with the frames I choose. Problems of the fashion-obsessed, I suppose.

My good friend from college, Konrad, has always worn glasses and saw all of the above complaints as a real issue. He is setting out to change that... one lens at a time. Meet Frameri:

Unless you're Larry David [if you were, I would DIE], then you'll probably want to get in on this. They've just launched a campaign on indiegogo and have lots of affordable and super stylish options. If you can keep a secret... I just might pick up a pair with clear lenses so that when I work from coffee shops, people think I'm a successful and intelligent writer. Whatever. Just go visit Frameri.

Thanks to the Frameri team for being smart enough to change the world one lens at a time.

My Kind of [Arm] Party

I have said it many times- I just cannot handle bulky arm candy. I really love the look of them on other arms, but on my own? It's a no. I type all day and I hate when bracelets clank against my desk. Or they'll caught up in my sleeve and at that point, I just end up taking them off and putting them in purse. That's why these small bracelets from Pura Vida have been a style game changer:

They're small enough for my taste and I'm finally able to partake in the Arm Party hashtag. Plus, the company has a great mission and support lots of charities- something I so appreciate. Check out all of the Pura Vida styles here, and let me know what you think in the comments below!

PS- anyone else have a totally wild Monday? UGH. This pin is describing my day perfectly.

A Day at the Coast

Stopping in today to share a few more photos from our Oregon Coast vacation a couple of weeks ago. If you haven't noticed, when I LOVE an outfit- I repeat it. Us Weekly would have a FIELD DAY with me if I was famous. Though, maybe they wouldn't because maybe they would think it was 100 photos of me on the same day instead of 100 different days?

OUTFIT DETAILS: top Gap [old, similar] // pants Anthropologie // chambray Target //sunglasses Free People

Anyways, I basically love this pant // shirt combo. It was the perfect look and comfort level for lazy days at the beach house. We took a long walk along the water, margaritas in hand, and it was the best day ever.

Do you have any outfits that you repeat weekly??

Happy Hour: Rose & Lime Margarita

The past few weeks, I have been craving margaritas. Tim whipped up a pretty fantastic batch at the beginning of the month, and ever since- tequila has been my go-to. Keep in mind, this is pretty weird for me as I typically equate tequila with questionable dance moves and a bad headache.

When I saw this recipe on A Feasted Life, I KNEW it was my new favorite cocktail. When I was little, I was obsessed with these little rose mints. Naturally, I'm quite a fan of rose simple syrup in cocktails too. I will be making one or two of these tasty margs to kick off the weekend.

Percent Lookbook + Party Time!!

A few months ago, my dear friend [and Rue associate] Kat McEachern asked if I'd help her on a very exciting project. In addition to her work at Rue and her freelance consulting business, Kat is a very talented jewelry designer. Percent Jewelry is her passion come to life- and the line needed a lookbook! It was a NO brainer I'd help style the shoot.

We partnered with talented photographer Anna Marks, and called in the absolutely gorgeous Sarah [of Sarah's Ambitions] to model. It was such a fun day pulling outfits and pairing Kat's gorgeous pieces with each look. I really love everything she makes, and it was wonderful to see the line come to life. If you love it just as much as I do, you can purchase her pieces on Etsy or Brika.

Now, about that PARTY: We couldn't let an event like this pass us by, so if you're in the Bay Area- I'd love to invite you to the Percent Lookbook Launch Party in Oakland!! You'll be able to view all of the images from the lookbook, shop the collection, and meet Kat [and myself!] while enjoying a drink at Temescal's newest boutique, Concept47. It's on Friday the 13th, and you can stop by anytime between 6-8. It should be a fun time! For more details, click here. Hope to see you there!!

2 years ago today [after a long distance crush I'd harbored for years], Tim stepped off of a plane at the Boise Airport. As I saw him standing there in his classic Ray Bans, I thought "well, everything is going to be different forever." And it has been.

In the last two years, my life has truly begun. I am so grateful to share a life, a home, and [maybe most importantly] a sense of humor with this dreamboat. I couldn't ask for a better partner.

Happy Anniversary. :)

NYFW Favorites

SO, I definitely apologizing in advance for creating one of the many "NEW YORK FASHION WEEK OH MY GOSH" posts that are likely floating around the internet today. But you guys, New York Fashion Week... OH MY GOSH. Thanks to, I've been catching up on shows from the comfort of my bed. There have been a few looks that have totally stolen my heart  and given me googly eyes. Here's what I'm in love with so far:

EVERYTHING IS PERFECT. How is that possible?? Have you been following NYFW, and if so- which line are you most excited about?

In non-fashion news, I am thrilled to announce I met Lil BUB this weekend. As in THE Bub. You can catch my photos on Instagram here & here [though rest assured, I took about 30 more]. She is even cuter in person, SUPER mellow, and her owner is really nice. She sat on a tiny little towel and was adorable. It's definitely the funniest way I've spent a Saturday probably ever.

How was your weekend??

Best Northern California Getaways // Part 2

In honor of the long holiday weekend, here is PART 2 of my "Best Northern California Getaways." [Psst... you can catch the first half of the list here!]

I first blogged about Mercey Hot Springs here. This destination is absolutely amazing when you need to unplug and relax. It's a natural hot springs in the middle of the California desert. Now, I'll be perfectly honest- this isn't the Ritz-Carlton we're talking about. This is a "rustic" escape, but in the very best way possible. Instead of a luxurious hotel, you stay in a small one-bedroom cabin. There isn't a bathroom within the cabin, but instead a communal "locker room" situation. HOWEVER... the peace, quiet, and overall serenity of the mineral springs makes up for it in strides. You'll relax in individual tubs and gaze at the stars and return home with a brand new outlook on life. Probably. TIP: You'll want to bring food & beverages since there aren't any restaurants nearby. This includes water!! We didn't really think ahead and only brought a few snacks + wine... and I was SO dehydrated in the morning. Also, there's no cell service... so be prepared to COMPLETELY disconnect from the real world.

Ahhh... wine country! You may remember my trip to Healdsburg last fall, which was my first time in wine country and definitely did not disappoint. For lodging, this hotel is a hidden gem. Again, not super fancy- but clean and quiet and has a pool! It's walking distance to the tasting rooms and shops, and is always a really great price. For my next visit, I plan on doing a bike tour of the wineries and checking out Scopa for dinner! I also suggest/insist upon Spoonbar for a nightcap, but wisely of course. You don't want the drive home in the morning to be too rough. Definitely not speaking from experience... ;)

True story: Sausalito is my saving grace when San Francisco brunch lines are too long. Located just across the bay, Sausalito is a slower paced city with amazing views. You can either hop on a ferry or take a short drive across the Golden Gate and you're there! We love wandering the shops, treating ourselves to ice cream, and exploring all of the hidden staircases. And for food? FISH is our absolute favorite spot! The menu contains sustainable seafood that is all SO fresh. Fact- I hate seafood, but their salads and burgers make up for it. Plus, the beer comes in mason jars- which I love. Another great spot is Bar Bocce- they've got delicious cocktails and fun games on the lawn. Sausalito is a perfect way to escape the hustle and bustle of SF without having to travel too far.

I may be biased when it comes to Lake Tahoe, but I would say this place is heaven on earth. I first visited a few years ago for an AMAZING bachelorette party. We stayed at this beautiful hotel in South Lake Tahoe, and enjoyed everything the area had to offer. I'm talking long days on the beach, amazing food (we loved Cabo Wabo), and... a foam party. Which is a real thing that still happens at the Mont Bleu and I've gotta say, is pretty fun. If you want a more relaxing trip, I adore North Lake Tahoe- the Ritz-Carlton to be exact. The sweeping views, stellar service, and beautiful spa are enough to never have to leave the hotel. If you do, Incline Village is pretty spectacular. Tahoe is about a 3-4 hour drive from San Francisco (where California and Nevada meet) and a total change of pace- whether you hit up North OR South.

There are a few places I'm still dying to check out. Big Sur, Lake Shasta, and Half Moon Bay are all sounding pretty enticing.

I hope this guide helps you plan your next NorCal escape!! If I've missed any, leave them in the comments below- I'd love to add them to my must-visit list!
