HELLO, Rue Daily!!

I cannot believe I waited like three days to spill the beans on Rue Daily. I guess I assumed you would all just know [and I'm hoping most of you did!!] and already be enjoying it. Let me fill you in on your new best friend, Rue Daily

Rue has always been my favorite digital magazine- gorgeous pages full of inspiration. Don't you worry, the magazine itself isn't going away. In fact, one will be out next Tuesday with a very special feature I can't wait to share!! But, it has been clear readers wanted more Rue. A daily-content site [meaning new articles each and every weekday] was the only solution. Thus, Rue Daily was born. We've all been so busy preparing for launch... late nights and long hours, just how we like it. It went live on Tuesday morning and I must say... it's love.  What will you find on Rue Daily?

You'll still see gorgeous home tours, like this one designed by Hannah Maple.

How to make your Instagram photos WAY better

Interviews with stylish tastemakers, like Kris Schoels from the blog Young Married Chic

Gorgeous DIYs like this feather wreath by Meg Allan Cole.

OR, get ideas to make your dream closet a reality.

I have had so much fun helping to create some of the content on the site, and trust me when I say there are amazing things to come. Head to Rue Daily, take a look around, and make sure to subscribe! I can't wait to hear what you all think. :)

WWL: Madewell Does it Again.

THIS: glasses // top // skirt // booties // bag
or THAT: glasses // top // skirt // oxfords // bag

Madewell has officially done it again with their Striped Downtown Skirt. With a hint of stretch and the perfect stripe, this skirt is number one on my Wish List right now. I am so sick of this chilly winter weather and ready to frolic around the city with bare legs. But which way do I style it???

Shoe Care Tips.

On this recent post, a reader [Hi Shannon!] asked for some shoe-care tips. I feel silly sharing, because I NEVER used to take care of my shoes. I would spill on them, scratch them, destroy them. So many little beauties ended their reign with a heartbreaking trip to the trash.

Nowadays, I am a shoe-freak. I treat flats from Target the same way I'd treat expensive heels. They need to be cared for so they will last a long time... which is the most budget friendly thing you can do. Since shoes are a staple that always come back in style, don't you want them to last forever? Here are my tips:

1. Rotate Your Favorites: I am guilty of finding a new favorite pair of shoes and wearing them to death, but this is one of the worst things you can do! Rotating your shoes ensures that all of them get equal wear and tear. Also, you won't be the girl who is always in the same pair of shoes.

2. Keep Them Clean: I know this seems obvious, but sometimes we get lazy. If your shoes need cleaning, clean them! Don't just throw them back on and run out the door.  Say you're at a bar or restaurant and spill champagne [or worse, SALSA] on your shoes, you should get the spot off as soon as possible. Google the best method to clean the material [example: pony hair is tricky!], and get them looking new again. ALSO... if you have shoes you don't wear often, remember to dust them off every once in awhile. If you keep up on this, they'll stay in great shape for years to come.

3. Store Them Properly: I store my shoes in covered shelving, NOT stacked or thrown in a pile. If you're short on space, something like this will help protect your shoes but doesn't require a ton of room. If you have shoes that come with a protective bag, take note- that means they should stay in there while you're not wearing them!

4. Waterproof: Sigh, if I had a dollar for every shoe I forgot to waterproof. I could basically buy a new pair of shoes! Using a protectant spray on your shoes is the smartest thing you can do. They protect against water, dirt, oil, and stains- I love this kind

5. Keep Their Shape: Proper storage will help with this! Not stacking shoes prevents them from getting squished. You can also stuff the shoes with crumpled paper, or use a fancy shoe tree like these. For boots, you can buy a boot shaper or use a trick I found on Pinterest- place empty wine bottles in boots to keep them propped upright. Also, you get to drink wine.

6. Become Friends with a Cobbler: Just because the soles of shoes are worn out or you've dinged and scratched them does not mean your shoes are done for. A professional cobbler can fix just about anything. Have your favorite shoes resoled or resurfaced, replace a broken strap, fix a broken heel- they'll be like new again!

7. Love Them: That's all. Just love your shoes. If you're going to be doing some gritty work or venturing on a really long, muddy hike, don't wear your favorite pair. Treat each pair of shoes [no matter the cost] as an investment, and they'll last. Simple as that. :)

And of course- if you HAVE cared for them and are now just sick of how they look, one of my favorite bloggers has a fun Shoe DIY that will upgrade just about any shoe to a new level of fabulous.

NOW... do you think with all this shoe talk, I'd not take a moment to do a little shopping??? Here are the shoes I am currently craving:

PHEW. After an exhaustive lesson [and shopping break] like this one, I think we've all earned a glass of champagne. Have a great day!!

WWL: Backpacks??

When the year changed from '99 to '00, I was certain my days of toting a backpack were over. However, a wish that should have died alongside Y2K rumors has resurfaced. I want a backpack.
You may be asking "Kelli, did you forget to eat breakfast today?" or "Are you feeling alright?" Truth be told, I feel great. And I really, really want a backpack.

Before I moved here, Tim and I sat at a corner coffee shop not too far from our place now. He drew while I sipped my chai and watched people go past the big windows. In a moment of [what I now see as] fear, I told Tim I was NOT going to change the way I dressed once I moved. Every girl that walked past was dressed much, much edgier than I- who sat in a sparkly rhinestone necklace and striped silk blouse. I couldn't fathom losing my signature style or GASP... dressing like a dirty boy. Tim laughed and told me I would eventually change my style to something more functional... that flimsy ballet flats and a huge, heavy tote would not be logical for all the walking I would do. I may not have consciously rolled my eyes, but oh... they rolled.

Tim, I am sorry. You were SO right. I have immediately bought more sneakers, and beanies, and cross body bags. And yet, it still isn't enough. I DO walk, like basically everywhere. I walk miles a day. And even that cross body bag isn't enough. When I am hauling my laptop + notebooks + camera + an additional outfit in case the weird weather changes, my shoulder starts to hurt and sigh... I need a backpack. With many thanks to shops like Madewell and ASOS, I can pick a one that isn't dorky and will mesh with my everyday style. First and foremost, let's all hope TODAY be the day that Tim doesn't read the blog... and SECOND, which bag should I choose?!

Road Tripper.

As I mentioned yesterday, we went on a little road trip to Mercey Hot Springs over the weekend. Escaping the city on weekend getaways is one of our favorite activities- we try to go somewhere new every few months. Since adventures often require luggage, I tote along my FAVORITE overnighter and accessories- a monogrammed Jon Hart travel set. My Uncle Doug and his wife Amy gave me the set as a college graduation gift, and I have gotten SO much use out of it. Pictured below are the Burleson Bag and the Makeup Case [other favorites I have are the jewelry organizer and the Petite Left Bank Tote]. Even Leonard loves them:

Jon Hart Design is based in San Antonio [where my uncle and his family lives], and is all handmade... so this luggage set will last me forever. PLUS... one of my absolute favorite bloggers, The Glamourai, has been toting hers around quite a bit lately. AKA I feel really cool to have the same thing she does. Just being really honest.

When I'm going to be stuck in the car for a few hours, I like to wear something that is cozy and comfortable, but also not humiliating when it comes time to check in at the hotel. Leggings, though they aren't technically supposed to be pants, are the best solution. I also stole one of Tim's denim shirts, he said it was ok:

top stolen from Tim's closet, vintage // leggings C&C // sneakers Superga // sunnies Nordstrom

Basically, this outfit is the best thing ever. I wish I owned 100 pairs of leggings and 100 mens denim shirts and just wore variations of it non stop. OKAY, okay... full disclosure. I'm definitely wearing a variation of it right now. Happy Tuesday!!

What a Weekend.

WHEW. Don't you just love when the weekend overlaps into Monday?? Tim and I took full advantage of his day off today- we roadtripped to Mercey Springs for a little getaway last night. And Friday and Saturday weren't too terrible, either. Here's what we were up to:

I found my Spirit Guide at my new favorite restaurant on Saturday. Now to find my Spirit Animal. [also, nail polish is Taxi Cab Yellow by Face]

We went to Cha Cha Cha's on Valencia for some lemonade and sangria. The. Best.

Sunday, we had brunch at home while watching the 49ers game. Can you say SUPER BOWL?!?

Speaking of Red + Gold, our saber tooth skull received the Midas touch. Give Tim a can of spray paint and wonderful things happen.

This decorative [??] touch at the hot springs reminded me we were definitely in the desert.

We arrived at the springs after dark. But, I snapped a photo this morning so you could see WHY we trekked to the desert. We had side-by-side tubs to soak in the hot, soothing mineral water. It was SO clear [no city lights] so we could see all of the stars. It was so relaxing and really wonderful. JUST what I needed.

This morning was nothing but clear blue skies and a cute palm tree right outside of our front door.

Sorry for the late post, but today- I completely disconnected from all things technology. No computer, no social media, and believe it or not- I loved every second of it. I think it should become a law that we ALL disconnect for one day a week... so refreshing.

How did you spend the long weekend??

Popbasic.

I am pretty, pretty excited to spill the beans on this new company called Popbasic. You know how companies like Birchbox let you get a little goody-box of beauty treats each month? Popbasic is doing that with clothing, except you don't have to subscribe... you can just shop! Sign up and each month, you can order three fashion items [like that cute polka dot shirt + the necklaces] PLUS one beauty surprise. I love this idea! I created a few styling ideas around their first micro-collection:

I am normally pretty opposed to overalls. But paired with casual flats and that cute blouse layered underneath? Suddenly they're on my wish list WHICH is weird of me, but yeah. I'd wear overalls.

I love that this first collection includes TWO statement necklaces. I was inspired by the yellow + gold  below:
Another nice thing is that if you're not feeling all three items, you can order individually. AND, there is free shipping worldwide. I wish I had thought of this! ANYWHO... thanks for letting me create some cute outfits, Popbasic! And ladies... go check out the site here & sign up for the mailing list so you don't miss out on the launch!

OMG shoes.

As most of you saw, I was featured on A Bit of Sass earlier this week. I talked about one of my favorite topics, SHOES. In my interview, I mentioned that shoes are a staple in your wardrobe. They are the finishing touch to any & every outfit, and they last seasons longer than anything else you could buy. Because of this longevity, I hadn't really purchased new shoes for awhile. I take good care of my shoes so I had held onto the same pairs for years. Since moving to SF, I've slowly gotten rid of the ones that are too worn out to go on and replaced them with stylish + functional favorites. Here are my shoe-purchases from the past few months:

Hunter Boots... finally.

Nothing too fancy or expensive, of course. Just a few new additions over the past few months to get that skip back in my step. It is also important to note that I have been pining over Hunter Boots for almost a year. I had some Christmas money, so I finally bit the bullet and bought them. And then SF promptly stopped raining. Probably forever. As in, I don't think it will ever rain again.

Story of my life.
