jacket Forever 21 // jeans Urban Outfitters // hat Target // boots Kelsi Dagger

Well, January certainly flew by… didn't it?? I almost didn't BELIEVE the calendar when I woke up today. The holidays just got so busy, and then I spent the last few weeks playing catch-up, and then suddenly I'm thinking about sweet treats for Valentine's?? Who knew.

This is a basic summary of what I've been wearing each & every day. Oversized coat, beanie, boots, repeat. Of course, adding a little leopard is always a win in my book. ;)

If you're in Northern California, MARK YOUR CALENDARS for one of the best wedding & entertaining events of the year… The LAB Event! On February 23 from 5-8pm at The Ferry Building, you'll find a hand-picked collection of Northern California's most talented and innovative wedding professionals. Perfect if you're recently engaged OR just love gorgeous entertaining inspiration.

Of course, no wedding event would be complete without a fashion show! The Lab always ends with a stellar Sarah Seven show [one of my favorite dress designers]

The creative forces behind the event were SO kind to ask me to model this year, but February 23 is Tim's birthday! I won't be able to attend and am SO disappointed! Hopefully some of you will be able to make it in my place. ;)

For ticket information, click here. Be sure to follow The Lab Event on Instagram & Twitter!

Style Crush

It doesn't happen too often anymore, but once in blue moon I come across a street style image that makes me want to throw out every single piece of clothing I own and light my closet on fire. While clicking through snaps of Paris Couture Week on WWD, a brief moment of style envy was ignited by this blonde showgoer [model Elena Perminova]. Though to be clear, when I say envy… I mean devastation. Who am I? What am I doing? Why do I wear loungewear everyday?

I love this layered look. She might be wearing a blanket, and I'm not entirely sure that her iPhone AND lipgloss fit in that small purse… but she's killing it. In addition, you could not find a better pair of shoes to finish this ensemble. I would wear this entire outfit in a heartbeat. But then I remember my life is relatively boring and I don't go places like Paris Couture Week. So until that changes, I'll just admire from afar. Bravo, blondie.

UPDATE: Fashionsta did a post on this same look. Apparently it's from Chloe Pre-Fall 2014. OF COURSE it is.

prints: deer flirtation // birch woods in winter // glacier national park // twisted horizon // horses at dusk

I love using for all of my stationery needs, but I only recently discovered their amazing collection of art prints. Over the past few weeks, I've spent a lot of time imagining my "someday home" [yes, we HAVE been watching too much HGTV], and I really want a gallery wall above my "someday" desk- like how good is THIS?! The other day, I totally got lost in their expansive print shop and came up with 5 new favorites. Which one do you love most?

Minted also is a great resource for Save the Dates, baby announcements, OR… if you're like me and blew your chance to send out holiday cards this year- Valentine's Day cards!! I'm thinking a personalized option… perhaps a photo of me and the cats? ;)

I'm off to place my V-day order. In the meantime, you can check out all of my "someday home" inspiration on Pinterest!

Just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who reached out after my last post. While I don't wish worry on anyone, it helps to know I'm not the only one who gets this way. This blog can often fall to the wayside, but I'm relieved to have had it as an outlet for expression and interaction. I also realized how much writing can help, so I hope to update here more in the new year. In addition, lots of reading, exercise, prayer, and the occasional margarita(s) have been of great help. ;)

On that note, check back later today for a "regular" [aka design!] post.

Today's post is more about satisfying my need to write it, but I do hope some of you can relate. As a disclaimer, I actually wrote the bulk of this a week ago. And on that note, I've written and re-written about a dozen similar posts yet never hit the publish button. There's something about posting something personal that makes me crave a level of privacy. I won't go into exact details, but I do think it's important to share what's been going on. I don't want my blog to be a space for "picture perfect moments;" I want people to know that I'm a human with struggles and occasionally fall off the grid. Anyways.

For the past few months, I've turned into a full-time worrier. I've allowed stress and anxiety to become a dominant factor in my life. I'm getting pretty exhausted. What's most aggravating about this constant dread is that I'm spending my energy worrying about things that are entirely out of my control. I get super focused on really toxic, negative situations and allow my mind to travel down the long and winding road of "worst case scenarios." Then, of course, I worry about those scenarios as if they are reality. Then, obviously, I worry about what all this negative energy is doing to my health and well being. I feel really frustrated because I have to change my thought process, and for some reason, that's just been really hard to do. My evenings have become a series of breathing exercises and lavender eye pillows and telling myself over and over and over again to just relax. I feel this anxiety residing in the pit of my stomach and the uneasiness makes its way into [what seems like] every minute of my day. Like I said, exhausted.

Yesterday, I posted this picture with an uplifting caption. I have run out of "magic solutions" and realized the only thing I can do is force myself to think positive thoughts. I am blocking the negative energy, and when it starts to creep back in- I need to stop it in its tracks. I have made a little list of ways to get over this hurdle and back to my normal self/normal way of life, but would love suggestions from you. How do you handle toxic energy and stress? How do you refocus your thoughts and stay on track? At this point… I'm ready to try anything.

As always, I must express my gratitude to you for reading. I am relieved to have a space where I can share, no matter how vague or open-ended it may seem. Thank you.

sweater Target [old] // scarf Gap // leggings Obey

One of my [many] New Year's Resolutions is actually TWO resolutions in one. A double whammy if you will. You see, I really hope to read more books and print magazines. While the logic behind that is technically to exercise my brain and learn more, the real reasoning is that I want to UNPLUG more. I have a long list of reading material- everything from fashion to architecture to scientific studies and historical pieces. I've had this list for awhile. The problem is… every time I sit down and open one up, I'm distracted by social media. Or I'll flip on the TV for just a second and get sucked into a 4 hour House Hunters marathon. While I still enjoy social media and House Hunters, I feel that my brain isn't ever really getting a chance to focus on something else. Work and blogging is constantly in the back of my mind and it never seems to end.

Over the holidays, we spent 5 days in Sea Ranch [pictured above]. While I did bring my laptop and get a bit of work done, a majority of the trip was spent without cell service or distractions from the present moment. It was a total reality check. I was thinking clearer, I was more inspired, and I felt happier and less stressed. So, while my resolutions to exercise more and save money may not make the cut come February, I really hope I stick with this reading one all through 2014.

On that note, what are your favorite books right now?? I just finished Brain on Fire, and am searching for a few new novels that will hold my attention past the third page and turn reading into a daily habit. Let me know in the comments, and I hope you have a great weekend!!
